After 2022, Amazon not only recommends you use the EPUB format instead, but officially will not allow you to upload MOBI to KDP or sideload MOBI onto your Kindle devices. AZW and its predecessors are essentially the same as MOBI, but with a different name and DRM (Digital Rights Management) scheme.
The average Kindle book size is about 300 pages, or 75,000 words of text, and the average Kindle e-book file size is 2.6 MB. But that's not exactly a one-size-fits-all answer. The size of your Kindle book will depend on the genre you write in and how many words (or images!)
Kindle devices can't read EPUBs natively. This is the main reason you would ever have to convert an EPUB to a MOBI file. Readers and authors alike will need to convert previously-purchased EPUBs into MOBIs if you need to send it to and read it on a Kindle device.
The mobi file is so much larger because it actually contains several files within: versions for each Kindle format (MOBI7, KF8), as well as an entire copy of the source EPUB file used to create it. These multiple versions are created when an EPUB file is converted into Amazon's proprietary mobi format.
Ebooks in Amazon's mobi format are larger than equivalent EPUB files.
If you're using anything other than a Kindle or the Kindle app, then EPUB is the better format. The only real reason to use MOBI is for compatibility with Amazon's e-reader and app, but otherwise it has no advantages over EPUB, which is a widely accepted format that is much easier to work with.
PDF - 4.5mb; ePub - 1.8mb; Mobi - 5.3mb.

If you are reading a 300 page book, you can expect it to be around 600 - 800 KB. There are 1024 KB in a MB, and 1024 MB in a GB. Given that some of that space is taken up by the OS and apps, let's estimate around 6 GB of space available on the Kindle.
Hold down the icon for the Mobi file attachment. A menu should open which says Open In. Select Kindle.
