I thought this debate was settled. I thought that /gɪf/, with a hard G, had won. But apparently not. It is more popular than /ʤɪf/, but its not a landslide: in a 2014 survey, only 70% of people said /gɪf/. And the formats creator, Steve Wilhite, argues that it should be /ʤɪf/, and has been arguing that for a long time. In fact, when the Webby Awards let him give one of their famous 5-words-only acceptance speeches, he said: its pronounced /ʤɪf/, not /gɪf/. This is the slide he put up with it. And, uh, yeah, you can see the problem there. Now, one of the most fundamental principles of modern linguistics is descriptivism: there should be no value judgment about particular words or pronunciations or types of speech, there must be no Correct Way To Speak handed down from on high. We describe how people speak. If language changes, we change with it. So the Oxford English Dictionary accepts both pronunciations, despite Steve Wilhite calling them Wrong end of story. Turns out, even i

Wilhite led the CompuServe team that invented the GIFthe now widely used moving-image formatand says its soft g pronunciation is a deliberate reference to Jif peanut butter. In fact, as Scott points out, Wilhite is extraordinarily adamant about pronouncing GIF like Jif.
GIF stands for Graphics Interchange Format. GIF is a raster file format designed for relatively basic images that appear mainly on the internet. Each file can support up to 8 bits per pixel and can contain 256 indexed colors. GIF files also allow images or frames to be combined, creating basic animations.
1. There are a number of excellent GIF animation utilities. 2. Careful design can result in remarkably small GIF files.
The creator of the GIF, Steve Wilhite, not only pronounces it as jif, but he says thats is the only proper way to say it. The image above is his acceptance speech for a lifetime achievement award at the Webbys in 2013. His speech was itself a GIF, which you can see in the image above.
Open the Animated gif in Photoshop. Go to the Window tab and select timeline(if the timeline is not already open). At the bottom of the timeline panel, you will find an option, which says Forever. Change that to Once.
Its pronounced JIF, not GIF. Just like the peanut butter. The Oxford English Dictionary accepts both pronunciations, Wilhite told The New York Times.
The solution is rather simple. Open the Animated gif in Photoshop. Go to the Window tab and select timeline(if the timeline is not already open). At the bottom of the timeline panel, you will find an option, which says Forever. Change that to Once. Go to File Export Export for Web and save it as a gif.
The answer to the problem is very simple. Just open a GIF editor (or an editor that supports GIFs), then choose Remove loop option, and resave it.
The top limit tends to be 200MB. Time limits apply too, with some tools curbing the length of an animated GIF at 15 seconds. Limiting the number of images or frames within your file will also make it easier to manage.
A GIF (Graphical Interchange Format) is an image format invented in 1987 by Steve Wilhite, a US software writer who was looking for a way to animate images in the smallest file size. In short, GIFs are a series of images or soundless video that will loop continuously and doesnt require anyone to press play.
