When evaluating interventions through the use of data-driven decision-making, we conceptualize our data in three primary categories: process, perception and outcome data.
At minimum, you should use data to: align the school counseling vision and mission with the schools vision and mission. identify school counseling program goals from baseline data. promote evidence-based interventions. monitor student progress. evaluate and demonstrate program effectiveness.
MEASURE stands for: Mission, Elements, Analyze, Stakeholders-Unite, Results, Educate. WHY USE MEASURE? MEASURE helps you organize your work to show that you are helping to drive critical data elements such as promotion rates, attendance, test scores, postsecondary going rates etc.
Achievement related data are things such as discipline referrals, attendance and tardies, report card grades, conduct grades, at -risk students, and climate surveys.
By using test score data, personal evaluations of student progress from counseling sessions, and staff evaluations, counselors can evaluate whether or not the program achieved its goals, and therefore, determine its level of accountability to students.
An example of a measure of outcome data would be the number of students who receive more than one failing grade, then again measuring that number after those students attend a semester-long study skills group.
An outcome evaluation tells you whether a program achieved its goals. A process evaluation tells you how and why. A process evaluation describes a programs services, activities, policies, and procedures.
Self-assessments are a simple way to measure your programs effectiveness. At the beginning of each group or individual session ask students to fill out a pre-counseling self-assessment on the topic you will be working on with them. During their last session, have them complete the same self-assessment.
6 Progress-in-Therapy Indicators Your moods and emotions have improved. Depending on the reasons for entering therapy, check if any of your symptoms have improved. Your thinking has shifted. Your behaviors have changed. Your relationships with others are better. You have better life satisfaction. Your diagnosis changes.
State the reason the client came to you, the highlights of your conversation, and the recommendations for a plan of action. Set a goal for the client and list the steps you recommend for treatment or follow-up sessions. Wrap up the report with your overall evaluation of the counseling session and sign the report.
