Hmmm, thats not what we want, is it? Todays digital cameras do a lot for us, but theres no replacement for the human eye. Its important to learn how cameras work with light to create an image, that way well know whats going on when its time to capture a moment. There are three variables that determine if youre getting the right amount of light for the correct exposure. With a manual camera, were able to change any of the variable ourselves. Different settings can result in really different pictures. Lets look at the process together. First, see this here? This is the aperture. Its the hole that light passes through. If we make the aperture big, well have more light, true, but the sharpness of your photo will decrease very quickly from your focus point, backward and forward. This is what we call shallow depth of field. If we have a very small aperture, well have less light but a deeper depth of field. For portraits, it can be nice to have a sharp figure separate from a som

photo finish. noun. : a finish of a race in which contestants are so close that a photograph of them crossing the finish line has to be examined to decide the winner. : a close contest (as in an election)
The IAAF rule book states “The athletes shall be placed in the order in which any part of their bodies (i.e. torso, as distinguished from the head, neck, arms, legs, hands or feet) reached the vertical plane of the nearer edge of the finish line” (Rule 164, IAAF Rules 2006-2007).
They told us it was a photo finish. The three remained even after the final hurdle and, with one hundredth of a second between them, it was a photo finish. The race comes down to a photo finish. The horse wins in a photo finish and pays $28.40 to win (earning him $710).
A photo finish camera works using strip photography – a sensor is fixed on the finish line from a high angle, taking a rapid succession of images through a narrow slit as athletes cross the line. The images are then arranged horizontally: the white background is the finish line's multiple reproductions.
lunge or a drop finish technique In this sort of finish, the competitor bends both arms backward and tries to contact the tape at the finish line with the chest as soon as it is just one stride away.

The function of Photofinish technology is to take a replicable image of the exact moment at the finish line, so that there is pictorial evidence of the winner. The technology we use is the most advanced in the world and uses a single mirror with two cameras to capture the image.
Reliable as they may be, photo-finish images are also blatantly untruthful. They're full of distortions: horses' legs may disappear; rowing oars often look as if they are made of rubber, and the crews that ply them seem out of synchronicity; chariot wheels look oval-shaped.
The camera is positioned above the track in grandstands and its slit is aligned with the finish line post. Before the horses reach the finish line, the camera begins recording as the strip film moves across the slit at the same rate of the horses as they cross the finish line, recording them from the nose backwards.
