So Ive been getting a lot of questions recently about how to better control page numbering in a Pages document. Sometimes you want to skip pages or have a cover page. So lets take a look at how to get exactly the page numbers that you want. Pages has, of course, two modes. Word Processing and Page Layout. Lets start by looking at Word Processing. Im going to create a blank document and Im going to paste in some text here to fill out the document. So as you can see Ive got a bunch of pages here. Lets go back to the top and add page numbering. You can do it in either the Header or the Footer for the page. Lets do it in the Header right in the center. Ill clic

Put the cursor on the page where the page numbering should start (that is, section two in the document). 5. Click on the Insert tab and Page Number. Select position and style for pagination.
Tap the Section tab, then tap Page Numbering. If you dont see Page Numbering, tap the Document tab and turn on Headers or Footers, then try again.
Add page numbers to your document Open your document in Pages. On iPhone, tap the More button . Tap Document Options, then tap Document Setup. Tap More Options at the bottom of the controls. Tap in any of the three fields for the header or footer. Tap Page Numbers, then tap a page numbering option.
Click in your first section (title), and then click the word Document in the toolbar. On the Section tab : Headers Footers, check Hide on first page of section. Now, click on next section, same panel location as above for that section, and uncheck Hide on first page of section. In Pages Numbering, click Start at: 1.
If you dont want a page number to appear on the first page, clear Show number on first page. To choose a format or to control the starting number, go to Header Footer Page Number Format Page Numbers. To change the numbering style, select a different style in Number format.
Move the pointer over the top or bottom of the page until you see the three header or footer fields, then click the field you want to use (left, center, or right). in the toolbar, click the Document tab, then select the Header and Footer checkboxes). Click Insert Page Number, then choose a numbering style.
Insert page numbers Select Insert Page Number, and then choose the location and style you want. If you dont want a page number to appear on the first page, select Different First Page. If you want numbering to start with 1 on the second page, go to Page Number Format Page Numbers, and set Start at to 0.
Start page numbering later in your document Go to Insert Header or Footer Edit Header or Edit Footer. Select Different First Page. In the header or footer area, you should see a label on the first page that says First Page Header. Select Close Header and Footer or press Esc to exit.
