Heart failure sometimes known as congestive heart failure occurs when the heart muscle doesnt pump blood as well as it should. When this happens, blood often backs up and fluid can build up in the lungs, causing shortness of breath.
Implanted Devices Your doctor may suggest surgery to implant a defibrillator in your chest. This device can shock your heart back into a healthy rhythm when it stops beating the right way. If you have a certain type of heart failure, you may have surgery to implant a special heart pump.
Patients are considered to be in the terminal end stage of heart disease when they have a life expectancy of six months or less. Only a doctor can make a clinical determination of congestive heart failure life expectancy.
Patients in the end stages of heart failure want to know what to expect. The symptoms of end-stage congestive heart failure include dyspnea, chronic cough or wheezing, edema, nausea or lack of appetite, a high heart rate, and confusion or impaired thinking.
In the final stages of heart failure, people feel breathless both during activity and at rest. Persistent coughing or wheezing. This may produce white or pink mucus. The cough may be worse at night or when lying down.
Congestive cardiac failure is a condition in which the heart loses the ability to pump blood efficiently throughout the body. The disease affects other organs in the body, resulting in breathing difficulty, reduced kidney function, and fluid accumulation in body tissues (edema) from poor circulation.
The goals of treating heart failure are to try to keep it from getting worse (lowering the risk of death and the need for hospitalization), to ease symptoms, and to improve quality of life. Some common types of medicines used to treat it are: ACE inhibitors (angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors)
End-stage heart failure manifests as severe and often relentless symptoms that define the clinical syndrome of heart failure, namely congestion and hypoperfusion. These patients suffer from dyspnea, fatigue, abdominal discomfort and ultimately cardiac cachexia.
Heart failure is a condition in which the heart muscle is weakened and cannot pump as well as usual. It is common and affects 10% of the population. It is also called congestive cardiac failure, or CCF.
Patients are considered to be in the terminal end stage of heart disease when they have a life expectancy of six months or less. Only a doctor can make a clinical determination of congestive heart failure life expectancy.
