Adding a reference (citation) into a document Place the cursor where you want the reference to appear. From the main menu, choose Insert Indexes and tables Bibliographic entry. In the Insert Bibliographic Entry dialog box, shown below, choose From bibliography database at the top of the dialog box.
To add a footnote go to menu Insert Footnote/Endnote and confirm OK. The programme will do the numbering for you. You can even cut a footnote anchor and move it around your text, placing it before or after other footnotes, and footnote numbering will be immediately updated.
Click where you want to reference to the footnote or endnote. On the References tab, select Insert Footnote or Insert Endnote. Enter what you want in the footnote or endnote. Return to your place in the document by double-clicking the number or symbol at the beginning of the note.
Changing footnotes to endnotes and vice versa To change a footnote to an endnote or vice versa, right-click on the footnote/endnote anchor and select Footnote from the pop-up menu. This opens a dialog box where the change can be made.
There are two types of footnotes: content footnotes, used to format digressive details, and copyright permission footnotes, used to prevent plagiarism.
Footnotes appear the bottom of a page whereas endnotes will appear at the end of the article, chapter, or back of the book. Footnotes are more common in scholarly works due to their ease of access for quick reference.
Alt+Ctrl+F to insert a footnote. Alt+Ctrl+D to insert an endnote.
To insert a footnote: Open the References tab and in the Footnotes group select Insert Footnote. Type the text for the footnote. Double-click the footnote reference mark to return to the reference mark in the document.
