Padding is an inner spacing, while margin is an outer spacing. Thats all.
Note that padding goes completely around the content: there is padding on the top, bottom, right and left sides (which can be independent). Margins are the spaces outside the border, between the border and the other elements next to this view. In the image, the margin is the grey area outside the entire object.
Its Working is Shown as below: XML.Output: android:paddingRight=size in dp android:paddingLeft=size in dp android:paddingTop=size in dp android:paddingBottom=size in dp
id. btnid); Use the setPadding(left, top, right, bottom) method on the view to set the padding. The integers passed as parameters to this function are the number of pixels (px), which are different from the density-independent pixels (dp or dip).
Padding can be set using the setPadding(int, int, int, int) method and queried by calling getPaddingLeft() , getPaddingTop() , getPaddingRight() and getPaddingBottom() . Even though a view can define a padding, it does not provide any support for margins.
Step 1, to update margin The basic idea is to get margin out and then update it. The update will be applies automatically and you do not need to set it back. To get the layout parameters, simply call this method: LayoutParams layoutParams = (LayoutParams) yourView.
The margin property sets or returns the margins of an element. This property can take from one to four values: One value, like: div {margin: 50px} - all four margins will be 50px. Two values, like: div {margin: 50px 10px} - the top and bottom margins will be 50px, left and right margins will be 10px.
The padding is expressed in pixels for the left, top, right and bottom parts of the view. Padding can be used to offset the content of the view by a specific number of pixels. For instance, a left padding of 2 will push the views content by 2 pixels to the right of the left edge.
