You should always have the following information on your donation receipts: Name of the organization. Donors name. Recorded date of the donation. Amount of cash contribution or fair market value of in-kind goods and services. Organizations 501(c)(3) status.
What do I have to include on the donation receipt? A statement that it is an official receipt for income tax purposes. CRA name and website address. Name and address of charity. Unique serial number. Charitable registration number. Location where the receipt was issued. Date the gift was received. Date the receipt was issued.
You should keep your official donation receipts for six years after the end of the tax year you made a claim for, in case the Canada Revenue Agency asks to see them. If you did your taxes late, keep your receipts for six years from the date you submitted your return.
In general, a well put together donation receipt should include the nonprofit organizations basic information such as name, the donation date, the donation amount, and a statement indicating that the organization is indeed an official nonprofit with their corresponding nonprofit ID nonprofit listed.
This includes their donation amount, your organizations name, the date they made a gift, and their payment method. If youve chosen to include images and copy at the top of your receipt, make sure you include a note that their transaction details are listed below.
For any contribution of $250 or more (including contributions of cash or property), you must obtain and keep in your records a contemporaneous written acknowledgment from the qualified organization indicating the amount of the cash and a description of any property other than cash contributed.
The receipt format for donation requirements is as follows: Donor Information: The name, address, and phone number of the donor. Date of Donation: The date on which you donated. Description of the Donation: A description of the type of donation (monetary or non-monetary)
