The finish type (varnish or lamination) protects the ink and prevents scratches. Varnish is the most common finish type used for playing cards. This liquid gloss finish is applied by the offset printing press to seal in and protect the ink.
Glossy business cards tend to be better quality and more protective than matte ones. Durability is definitely a pro when it comes to glossy vs. matte. Additionally, glossy business cards are great if you want to make colors pop.
The most popular finishes are; Matte, Satin, and Gloss. The stocks we offer in house are Frosted Clear, Metallic, Clear, and White. Ill walk you through a few examples of cards we have made with each stock and finish so you can get a sense of what stock/ finishes you want to use.
Glossy business cards have an eye-catching sheen that coats one or both sides of the business card, whereas a matte finish is muted and doesnt have that type of coating.
Construction paper is colored cardstock paper. Since it is mainly wood pulp, the papers surface is slightly rough and unfinished. This has been one of the very first craft paper used for different projects.
Satin is a smooth dull finish with a classical, sophisticated, understated and very elegant look. Gloss is a much shinier, more reflective get up and go stock. Both are suitable for text and images. Satin is a better choice if reflections from light sources might be a problem.
Varnish is the most common finish type used for playing cards. This liquid gloss finish is applied by the offset printing press to seal in and protect the ink.
Satin is a smooth, semi-gloss finish. It is less-shiny than gloss but not as flat as a matte finish, the perfect in-between. You can use satin on either or both sides of your plastic cards. Satin shows vibrant colors very well, and is a good choice if you dont want an extremely glossy or flat look.
