Banners are the pop-up notifications you see while youre using your phone. Below those options are two more: Sounds and Badges. Sounds are the audio tone alerts. Badges are the red circles with numbers that show up on app icons, for example, the one on your email app showing how many unread messages you have.
Starting with Android 8.0 (API level 26), notification badgesalso known as notification dotsappear on a launcher icon when the associated app has an active notification. Users can touch hold the app icon to reveal the notifications, along with any app shortcuts, as shown in figure 1.
Turn on App icon badges from Settings. Navigate back to the main Settings screen, tap Notifications, and then tap Advanced settings. Tap the switch next to App icon badges to turn them on.
A notification banner lets you tell the user about something thats not directly relevant to the thing theyre trying to do on that page of the service.
To Remove Unread Counts from App Icon Badges To do so, tap anywhere on the App icon badges menu item except its toggle, and youll see more options. Then, change the badge style from showing numbers to Dot (on Android 1012) or Show without number (on Android 89).
If you dont want to use any other types of alert for an app, Badges can be a good prompt for you to open the app itself to read any notifications youve missed. That said, disabling badges for every app is also a great way to simplify your iPhone or iPad Home Screen.
What are notification badges? Theyre the red dot, usually with a number inside, showing how many notifications you have received in any given app. Badges can appear on the app icons of your home screen, in the App Library, or on both or neither.
If you want to change badge with number, you can be changed in NOTIFICATION SETTING on the notification panel or Settings Notifications App icon badges Select Show with number.
