Also, please like and leave a comment, and share the video to help spread this free series of videos. Thanks for your help. In this video we will cover standard ACLs, access control lists. Ill be splitting up ACLs into two days, this video and the next one, Day 35, which will cover another kind of ACL. ACLs are in the exam topics under section 5, security fundamentals. Specifically, topic 5.6, which says you must be able to configure and verify access control lists. It doesnt specify IPv4 or IPv6, but for the CCNA you just have to learn IPv4 ACLs. Perhaps later Ill make an extra video introducing IPv6 ACLs, but currently its not necessary for the CCNA. Heres what well cover in todays video. First, what are ACLs? Ill introduce their basic purpose. Ill talk about ACL logic, how they are actually processed by the router. Ill intro

IP ACLs classify for Layer 3. Each ACL is a set of up to 10 rules applied to inbound traffic. Each rule specifies whether the contents of a given field should be used to permit or deny access to the network, and can apply to one or more of the following fields within a packet: Source IP address.
Standard ACLs should be located as close to the destination as possible. If a standard ACL were placed at the source of the traffic, the permit or deny would occur based on the given source address, regardless of the traffic destination.
A standard ACL allows or denies traffic access based on the source IP address, while an extended access control list can filter packets with a higher degree of specification. It can determine the types of traffic it allows or blocks beyond just the IP address to include TCP, ICMP, and UDP, for example.
At the end of every ACL, there is an Implicit DENY ALL statement. This statement does not show up in the configuration or when you run the show access-list command. But, it is ALWAYS there.
At the end of every ACL, there is an Implicit DENY ALL statement. This statement does not show up in the configuration or when you run the show access-list command. But, it is ALWAYS there.
An access control list (ACL) consists of one or more access control entries (ACEs) that collectively define the network traffic profile. This profile can then be referenced by Cisco IOS XR Software software features such as traffic filtering, priority or custom queueing, and dynamic access control.
It specifies permit/deny traffic from only a source address with optional wildcard mask. The wildcard mask is used for filtering of subnet ranges. By default, there is an implicit deny all clause as a last statement with any ACL.
A standard ACL uses only source IPv4 addresses in its ACEs. This type of ACE is useful when you need to: Permit or deny any IPv4 traffic based on source address only. Quickly control the IPv4 traffic from a specific address.
