[MUSIC PLAYING] ABBY RANDALL: An Exit Ticket is a short assessment given at the end of class that the students must complete before they can leave class for the day. So on a scrap piece of paper please put your name. These are Exit Tickets. Exit Tickets can be anything from a prepared one or two question little quiz that youve typed up or written, or it can be as simple as throwing a question up on the overhead and giving them scrap paper and having them solve it. They like the routine. They know exactly what to do. They know, at the end of the day, theyre going to be held accountable. Its a really quick way for me to assess if students learned the concept of the day. I often use it as the you-do part of guided practice, so once the students have practiced together, and weve done it together, then they are able to show me if they can do it on their own. A 3-2-1 prompt helps students structure their responses to a text, film, or lesson by asking them to describe three takeaways, two questions, and one thing they enjoyed. It provides an easy way for teachers to check for understanding and to gauge students interest in a topic.
When reading, have students record three of the most important ideas from the text, two supporting details for each of the ideas, and one question they have about each of the ideas.
Students would write down 3 things that they think might happen during an experiment or investigation. Then they would write down 2 things that really happened and the 1 box would be where students would write a question that they might have about the experiment or investigation.
Exit tickets should only take around 5 minutes to complete and are typically 1-3 questions long. They allow teachers to collect both quantitative and qualitative data on student comprehension to optimize future lessons.
Some possible prompts or questions to use for the ticket to leave: Name one important thing you learned in class today. What did you think was accomplished by the small group activity we did today? Write/ask one question about todays content - something that has left you puzzled.
