The title element. Every XHTML document must have a title element in the head section. The title element is used to provide identification for a document or a section of a document. Since documents are often consulted out of context, authors should provide context-rich titles.
The h1, h2, h3, h4, h5, h6 tags are used to create text headers for a document. They can display the header text in one of six different sizes. h1 is the largest size and, as the integer number increases to h6, the text size becomes progressively smaller.
The tag defines the title of the document. The title must be text-only, and it is shown in the browsers title bar or in the pages tab. The tag is required in HTML documents! The contents of a page title is very important for search engine optimization (SEO)!
There are six levels of numbered headings in XHTML with h1 as the most important and h6 as the least. XHTML does not itself cause section numbers to be generated from headings.
XHTML tags are case sensitive. For instance, and will be read as two different tags. XHTML tags must be closed with a closing tag or a trailing slash. Examples: Some text, . In HTML, closing tags and trailing slashes are not required (but they are acceptable).
The tag interrupts the normal line filling and word wrapping of paragraphs within an HTML or XHTML document.
The six heading tagswritten as , , , , , and indicate the highest ( ) to lowest ( ) precedence a heading may have in the document. The text enclosed within a heading typically is rendered by the browser uniquely, depending upon the display technology available to it.
HTML defines six levels of headings. A heading element implies all the font changes, paragraph breaks before and after, and any white space necessary to render the heading. The heading elements are H1, H2, H3, H4, H5, and H6 with H1 being the highest (or most important) level and H6 the least.
