KDP templates can help you format your paperback book interior. Choose between a blank template or a template with sample content added, which will help guide your formatting. Both options are a pre-sized manuscript in Microsoft Word. If you wish to have an interior with bleed, meaning images will extend to the furthest edge of the page, the page width and height will have to be adjusted. Check the page size chart to get the adjusted measurements and change the page size to accommodate bleed. I am going to walk you through using the template with sample content. Ill select the template that fits my trim size. Depending on the version of Microsoft Word that you have, a yellow banner seen at the top of the screen may pop up while editing. Simply click enable editing to get started. Lets start filling out our title information page by page. On our first page, we have the book title and author name. This is filler text. Ill replace the filler text with my title information by copying an

Your book proposals table of contents should contain the following sections: Overview. Marketing. Promotion. Competing Books. About the Author. List of Chapters. Chapter-by-chapter Summaries. Sample Chapters.
To create a TOC for fiction, try these methods: Profile your characters. Create a story board. Number the lines of a sheet of notebook paper and put a word by each one that best represents what you want to happen in each chapter. Use an Excel spreadsheet to block out chapters and the scenes within them.
The main components of the chapter proposal are a tentative title, author name(s) and a short description of the chapter, clearly explaining the aims and concerns of the chapter. The proposal length could be 1-4 pages.
Formatting a book proposal A book proposal is a lot like a manuscript, but in addition to the sample chapters, it has a section that functions like a business plan, with an overview, author bio, audience analysis, comparative and competitive titles, marketing, publicity, and promotion.
Annotated table of contents Annotated table of contents Provide a chapter outline, including a descriptive paragraph on the key points, themes, and arguments of the material to be covered in the chapter. Sources This need not be comprehensive but say what kinds of archival documents, oral histories, collections, etc.
Following are the major elements of a book proposal in the sequence I prefer: Title page. Alternative titles. Bio. Brief Description. Table of Contents. Chapter-by-chapter synopsis. Platform/Marketing Plan. Writing sample.
While proposal length varies tremendously, most are somewhere around 10 to 25 pages double-spaced, not including sample chapters.
