600 Subject Added Entry - Personal Name. Field definition and scope: Field 600 contains a subject added entry in which the entry element is a personal name. Subject added entries are assigned to a bibliographic record to provide access ing to established subject cataloging principles and guidelines.
The 650 tag provides topical or general subject headings, phrase subject headings including general names of meetings, events, or objects, and phrase topics that begin with a geographic name.
700 Added Entry--Personal Name (R) A personal name used as an access point. An access point is assigned ing to various cataloging guidelines to give access to the bibliographic record from personal names that may not be more appropriately assigned as fields 100, 600, or 800.
The most commonly used type of subject heading is a topical heading. These are headings created to describe the topic of the item being catalogedthe content in that item. For books, this may be terms such as POTTERY or UNITED STATESHISTORY.
Topical terms include occupation and function terms that are used as the lead element of subject or added entry access fields in bibliographic records.
Tag: This is the three-digit number assigned to each field in the MARC record. There are many tags that can be used, and often the tag indicates specific information about the field. For example, a topical subject heading has a different tag than a geographic subject heading.
