Extruded polystyrene (XPS) is rigid foam providing a strong, lightweight and flexible insulation solution that is resistant to water absorption, making it ideal for a range of building and commercial applications.
Cons of XPS: Higher cost compared to EPS. Heavier weight, which can make it more difficult to handle and . Lower R-value per inch of thickness compared to EPS.

What is XPS? XPS (extruded polystyrene insulation) is manufactured using extrusion: a continuous process which results in a closed-cell structure with a smooth skin on the top and bottom of the board.
EPS is slightly more permeable to air and moisture, whereas XPS is more resistant to water vapour. Therefore, if youre looking to insulate a humid area (e.g. floors, cellars and foundation walls), XPS is your best option.
While insulating the ceiling, foil backed insulation is usually placed between the floor joists or over the joints, in a pitched roof, these two methods are used. The easiest way to insulate the roof with foil faced insulation is between and beneath the rafters as you dont have to worry about the accuracy of the cuts.
