To add new points to an existing plot, use the points() function. The points function has many similar arguments to the plot() function, like x (for the x-coordinates), y (for the y-coordinates), and parameters like col (border color), cex (point size), and pch (symbol type).
The default R plot pch symbol is 1, which is an empty circle. You can change this to pch = 19 (solid circle) or to pch = 21 (filled circle). To change the color and the size of points, use the following arguments: col : color (hexadecimal color code or color name).
Step 1: Identify the point in question, (x,y). Step 2: Determine its x-coordinate, which will be the horizontal distance from the origin. Step 3: Determine its y-coordinate, which will be the vertical distance from the origin. Step 4: Plot or label the point (depending on what the question is asking).
Adding text If you want to annotate your plot or figure with labels, there are two basic options: text() will allow you to add labels to the plot region, and mtext() will allow you to add labels to the margins. For the plot region, to add labels you need to specify the coordinates and the label.
Using pch values in R R offers a range of values that correspond to specific symbols. For instance pch = 1 for circles pch = 2 for triangles pch = 3 for downward pointing triangles and so forth. You can find the list of available pch values in the R documentation.
