Omit the dollar sign. Always put a decimal place after the total dollar amount and write a number of cents. If the amount is an even number, write two zeros for the cents. Example: You would write $15,237 as $15,237.00.
Legal Writing Tip: Its All in the Numbers Spell out numbers below 10 and big round numbers. If you chose to spell out multi-word whole numbers between 22 and 99, use hyphens. Also use hyphens when those numbers are part of bigger numbers. When writing large numerals, use commas.
Contract numbers are automatically generated by prefixing the person number with CONT. For example, if the person number is 17040, the contract number would be CONT17040. Subsequent contracts of the assignment would have suffix numbers, for example CONT17040-2, CONT17040-3.
A contract template must include these details: Details of parties involved. Description of services. Terms and conditions. Payment terms. Rights and obligations. Governing law. Dispute resolution. Contract clauses.
2) Use words for simple figures from one to ten. Use figures for numerals from 11 upwards and for all figures that include a decimal point or a fraction. Examples: One, seven, 14, 975 and 6,650.
This comes from contract style. Lawyers often place numerals (14) in parentheses in contracts in case the written number (fourteen) is misspelled and to avoid any other claim by a party to the contract that they misunderstood the contract or that a referenced number was not in the contract.
If the number is approximate (e.g. around six hundred years ago) it should be spelled out. Very large numbers should generally be expressed without using rows of zeros where possible (e.g. $3.5 million instead of $3,500,000). In contracts, the use of both words and numbers is common in order to increase certainty.
