What is a port number? Ports are standardized across all network-connected devices, with each port assigned a number. Most ports are reserved for certain protocols for example, all Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP) messages go to port 80.
1. A destination port is the TCP or UDP number used by a program on one side of communication to receive data from another program on the other end. 2. On the client-side, the source port specifies the program to which the TCP element belongs, and the client gives this port number dynamically.
Destination Ports Are Server Applications Destination ports may be well-known ports (0-1023) for the major Internet applications, such as Web and email. For example, all port 80 packets (HTTP packets) are directed to and processed by a Web server.
These numbers will occur in the protocol field of any IP header. Its a list of protocols, not tied to protocols actually supported on your system. Its the local equivalent of the IANAs list of protocol numbers.
To accomplish this task, IP uses protocol numbers to identify transport protocols, and the transport protocols use port numbers to identify applications. Some protocol and port numbers are reserved to identify well-known services.
Port of destination (POD) is the port where a ship will be loaded or unloaded. It is also known as the port of call, port of discharge, and port of loading/discharge. The POD can be any port within the country or outside the country.
On Windows: Open the Command Prompt. Type netstat -an and press Enter. Look for the Local Address column and find the port number associated with the IP address.
How do I find the port number of a specific IP address? All you have to do is type netstat -a on Command Prompt and hit the Enter button. This will populate a list of your active TCP connections. The port numbers will be shown after the IP address and the two are separated by a colon.
