Often a cavity will look like a dark spot on the tooth, typically yellow, brown, or black in color. Early on, it may resemble tooth staining or a slight discoloration. As cavities progress, the holes get bigger and usually darker. A little dot can ultimately consume almost the entire tooth.
But if the cavity has grown and has been there for a while, the short answer is you really cant make it go away. Pain from a cavity can fade, which can make us believe the cavity itself has gone away on its own but in reality, this is because the tooth decay has caused nerve damage.
While it is usually difficult to see a cavity in its early stages, some cavities start with a whitish or chalky appearance on the enamel of your tooth. More serious cases of tooth decay can have a discolored brown or black color. However, most often there are no distinguishable red alerts.
Tooth sensitivity. Mild to sharp pain when eating or drinking something sweet, hot or cold. Holes or pits in your teeth that you can see. Brown, black or white staining on any surface of a tooth.
Generally, a filled cavity will have a smooth surface that blends with the natural contour of the tooth. The color of the filling material is typically chosen to match the shade of the tooth, making it less noticeable when you smile or talk.
Using a drill or another specialized tool, the dentist removes the decayed area of the tooth. They then fill the hole in the tooth. Lastly, they polish the filling and may adjust it so that the persons bite feels normal.
