The main difference between OEM, ODM, and OBM is the level of involvement in the manufacturing process. OEMs design and manufacture products that are sold under another companys brand name, while ODMs manufacture products based on the designs and specifications provided by another company.
In the data center industry, ODM refers to original design manufacturers that specialize in the designing, testing, and manufacturing of data center hardware products and systems, including servers, networking equipment, storage devices, and related infrastructure products.
OEM original equipment manufacturer Apples iPhone has the Apple logo clearly visible to users. Apple is the OEM. Apple designs its products, but Apple outsources the majority of iPhone manufacturing production to contract electronics solutions providers.
ODM (Original Design Manufacturer) For example, Apple is known for designing its own products, but it also uses ODMs to manufacture them. Foxconn, a Taiwanese electronics manufacturer, is one of the ODMs that Apple uses to produce iPhones, iPads, and other devices.
ODM, on the other hand, is an abbreviation for Original Design Manufacturer. As the name suggests, ODM is a business model that produces the design and the final product. Therefore, they operate as both the designers and manufacturers, but allow the buyer/customer to make slight changes to the products.
A very prominent example of OEM software is Windows. In this case, Microsoft is the original equipment manufacturer that supplies the VAR famous computer manufacturers, such as Dell, HP, Lenovo, or others with a version of Windows most suitable for their hardware.
ODM Rules, or Business Rule Management Systems (BRMS), allows business users to control how the system makes decisions. ODM Rules functions in a rules engine, which is a software type that manages business rules.
ODM is a manufacturing model in which a company orders the existing product of a manufacturer, brands it as its own, and markets and sells the product. In this model, the manufacturer is called the original design manufacturer.
