Right-click the index with the fill factor that you want to specify and select Properties. Under Select a page, select Options. In the Fill factor row, enter the fill factor that you want. Click OK.
When you create an index, you can specify how densely or sparsely filled you want the index. The index fill factor is a percentage of each index page that will be filled during the index build.
Summary of how to index (if not using Word index functionality at manuscript preparation stage) Make a list of terms to appear. Separate these terms into main entries and subentries. Add the page numbers for every meaningful reference to a selected term. Alphabetize all main entries and main words of subentries.
If writing an index for a book, first identify the key words, major subtopics, and names of docHub people and places discussed in the book. Next, make an alphabetical list of these items. Lastly, search and record the page number where each item from the alphabetical list is mentioned in the book.
On the References tab, in the Index group, click Insert Index. In the Index dialog box, you can choose the format for text entries, page numbers, tabs, and leader characters. You can change the overall look of the index by choosing from the Formats dropdown menu.
You can use the asc (ascending) and desc (descending) keywords to assign a sort order to each column in an index. By default, sort order is ascending. Creating indexes so that columns are in the same order specified in the order by clauses of queries eliminates sorting the columns during query processing.
Fill factor value regulates the percentage of data to be filled in each data page. In this example, SQL Server index Fill factor value defined with 80 on Primary Index means that each page of table will have 20% free space and 80% space will be allocating to store the data.
You can use the ASC and DESC keywords to specify ascending (smallest value first) or descending (largest value first) order. The default order is ascending. For DATE and DATETIME data types, smallest means earliest in time and largest means latest in time.
ASC | DESC Specifies that the values in the specified column should be sorted in ascending or descending order. ASC sorts from the lowest value to highest value. DESC sorts from highest value to lowest value. ASC is the default sort order.
Answer: In general terms, Ascending means smallest to largest, 0 to 9, and/or A to Z and Descending means largest to smallest, 9 to 0, and/or Z to A. Ascending order means the smallest or first or earliest in the order will appear at the top of the list: For numbers or amounts, the sort is smallest to largest.
