Form 1040EZ Eligibility Your filing status was single or married filing jointly. You did not claim anyone as your dependent. You (and your spouse, if youre filing jointly) were under age 65 in the relevant tax year, and not blind. Your taxable income was less than $100,000.
Forms 1040A and 1040EZ are no longer available. Taxpayers who used one of these forms in the past will now file Form 1040.
Whereas Form 1040 has 79 lines to fill out, the 1040EZ only has 14 and is composed of six sections to record wages, salaries, tips, income interest, and unemployment compensation. As mentioned earlier, the 1040 also has extensive options for deductions, such as education costs and health care saving plan contributions.
Your filing status was single or married filing jointly. You had taxable income of less than $100,000 with less than $1,500 of interest income. You claimed no dependents.
On Line 1, include the income reported on your Form W-2 and attach your W-2 to the 1040EZ. On Line 2 you should report the taxable interest you earned. Remember, if this is more than $1,500 you cannot use Form 1040EZ. On Line 3, report any unemployment benefits or Alaska Permanent Fund dividend payments you received.
Taxpayers must include personal information on Form 1040, such as name, address, Social Security number, and the number of dependents. A filer also needs to report wages, salary, taxable interest, capital gains, pensions, Social Security benefits, and other types of income.
Social Security numbers for you, your spouse and any dependents. Statements of wages earned (for example, your W-2 and 1099s). Statements of interest or 1099-DIV forms for dividends from banks or brokerages. Proof of any tax credits or tax deductions.
The first section includes names, contact information and social security numbers. The income section, includes information on wages, salaries, taxable interest, and unemployment compensation. The payments, credits, and tax section goes over any withholdings and the earned income tax credit, if you qualify for it.
