AutoFill Formulas Click and hold on the fill handle and drag to the right (or down) to fill in the other cells. Excel automatically adjusts the formula for the row it is now on (so, in the example at right, Februarys total formula would read =SUM(B3:F3) and so on.
Double-Click Fill Handle: Double-click the small square in the bottom-right corner of the cell with the formula. This action automatically extends the formula down the column while keeping the references consistent.
Simply do the following: Select the cell with the formula and the adjacent cells you want to fill. Click Home Fill, and choose either Down, Right, Up, or Left. Keyboard shortcut: You can also press Ctrl+D to fill the formula down in a column, or Ctrl+R to fill the formula to the right in a row.
Find the handle at the bottom-right of the cell and hold your cursor over it until it becomes the plus sign. Click and drag the handle across the entire column. Click and drag the auto-fill handle across your entire column to apply the formula to each cell in the column.
Fill handle: Double-click the small blue square in the lower-right corner of the cell with the formula. Google Sheets will automatically detect the pattern and fill the formula down the column or across the row. This method is ideal for larger datasets or when you want to save time.
If you want to maintain the original cell reference when you copy it, you lock it by putting a dollar sign ($) before the cell and column references. For example, when you copy the formula =$A$2+$B$2 from C2 to D2, the formula stays exactly the same. This is an absolute reference.
