How long do First Look photos take? A first look normally takes anywhere from 15 to 30 minutes. That time fits in the wedding timeline one to two hours before guests start arriving. You want to make sure that your wedding ceremony happens at the right time so you have enough time for everything.
Photographers Arrival to the ceremony: At least 30 minutes before the ceremony start time. Allow time for your photographer to set up at the church and capture the ceremony location, guests arriving and other details.
Its totally okay if couples choose not to do a First Look on their wedding day. Its just our preference to do one for many reasons, which we will share. Ninety percent of Brides do a first look. They are amazing!
A First Look is a moment that a couple shares before their actual wedding ceremony, where they see each other for the first time in their formal attire, all dressed up. Usually, the couple is alone during this time with their photographer present to capture those first intimate moments.
ADVICE The first look should be around 20-30 minutes. During this time, the bride and groom enjoy seeing each other for the first time on the wedding day. While the actual first look might only be 15 minutes, the rest of the time is spent on a few basic portraits of the bride and groom.
1 to 1.5 hours is the ideal amount of time for wedding party photos. If theres a bit of travel between the ceremony and reception locations, allow for this.
So what is the 30/5 rule? Its the rule that accounts for things that typically take 5 minutes in real life that will take 30 minutes on a wedding day. It also means that 30 minutes on a wedding day will feel like 5 minutes. You may have heard people say over and over that your wedding day will fly by.
Professional photographers take pictures in whats called RAW file format. These end up being really large files that are most suitable for photo editing (because they retain a lot more image detail), but not good for much else.
