Most courts and lawyers recommend using a 12-point font for legal documents. Thats large enough for anyone to be able to read and still small enough that you can fit plenty of information on a single page. Using an overly large font is obnoxious to read and takes up too many pages.
There is no standard font size for writing business document but the common font size for business documents is typically 12 point. The standard font style is often Times New Roman or Arial. However, these standards can vary depending on the company or industry.
More formal recipients would expect Times New Roman font with the standard font size for letters as 12, however, a modern business with a relaxed outlook would still consider your letter appropriately styled with Arial font.
For printed materials, the optimal point size when choosing a font for print is between 10-12 points, however legibility at this size can vary greatly between different typefaces. Always print out your project at 100% size (without scaling) to determine if the font size is legible for your printed project.
12 pt Calibri is the default size and font for a Word document, for example. Have you ever stopped to consider, though, what point size actually means?
In general, use a serif font (such as Times New Roman). They are more comfortable to read. Fonts should be a minimum of 12 point and 1.5 line spacing is recommended unless otherwise specified. Titles and headings may be in a bold sans serif font (such as Ariel).
Helvetica, its safe to presume, is the most popular and widely used font in the world. It possesses clean shapes, crisp look and legibility, and it is a big font family containing 22 different fonts, expanding to more than just different weights, bold and italics.
Arial is the most widely used font for both online and printed media. Arial is also the default font in Google Docs. Arial is one of the safest web fonts, and it is available on all major operating systems.
