Enter a clear title for your question that hints at the topic or content. Write your sentence or paragraph and create blanks or dropdowns for the missing information. If using dropdowns, input the answer options and highlight the correct answer. For blank spaces, enter one or more correct answers.
Tips for writing good Fill in the blanks questions Keep answers for the blanks simple and brief. One-word answers prevent issues like extra spaces or word order causing a correct answer to be scored as incorrect. Do not start the question with a blank, because this may confuse learners.
A fill in the blank question is essentially a more challenging version of a multiple choice question. Instead of choosing the correct answer, they need to come up on their own and write a short simple answer. It makes it a lot harder for them to guess the right answer!
A multiple-choice question (MCQ) is composed of two parts: a stem that identifies the question or problem, and a set of alternatives or possible answers that contain a key that is the best answer to the question, and a number of distractors that are plausible but incorrect answers to the question.
Enter a statement and surround a word with backticks to indicate where a user will fill in the answer (e.g., Roses are `red`, violets are `blue`). You can use the Rich Content Editor to format and add content to your question stem.
Here are some things to keep in mind when developing these types of questions. Keep them simple and clear. Ensure there is only one correct answer for the blank. Use the blank judiciously. Keep answers brief. Limit the number of blanks per question. Dont give clues to the correct response in the question. Review it carefully.
A Fill in the Blank question consists of a phrase, sentence, or paragraph with a blank space where a student provides the missing word or words. You can also create a question with multiple blanks. Example: [Patriarchy] translates to rule by the father.
Fill-in-the-blank exam items contain statements which you must complete by inserting information into blank spaces. Required responses are usually very specific ones that involve information pertaining to dates, persons, events, places or definition of terms.
