When you have heart failure, your heart does not pump out enough blood. This causes fluids to build up in your body. If you consume too much sodium, this can lead to fluid retention. You may get symptoms such as swelling, weight gain, and shortness of breath.
The hallmark of heart failure is dyspnea. The classic combination of raised jugular venous pressure (JVP), peripheral edema, palpable liver, basal crepitations, tachycardia, and a third heart sound is well known.
THE CARDINAL symptoms of congestive failure are dyspnea, fatigue and edema. The purpose of this discussion is to outline the physiologic basis for these symptoms and to discuss their therapy. HEART FAILURE. ---The heart is a pump which delivers blood to the tissues of the body.
The common symptoms of congestive heart failure include fatigue, dyspnoea, swollen ankles, and exercise intolerance, or symptoms that relate to the underlying cause.
Compensated heart failure means your heart works well enough that you either dont notice any problems or the symptoms are easy to manage. You dont have fluid buildup in your legs and feet, and you can breathe without trouble. Your body still seems to be doing OK, even with the change in your hearts pumping ability.
Other commonly reported symptoms of CHF include chest pain, anorexia, and exertional fatigue. Anorexia is due to hepatic congestion, bowel edema, and reduced blood flow to splanchnic circulation. Some patients may present with a recumbent cough due to orthopnea.
Shortness of breath with activity or when lying down. Fatigue and weakness. Swelling in the legs, ankles and feet. Rapid or irregular heartbeat.
The most common findings include arterialization of the conjunctival veins, chemosis, proptosis, diplopia, bruit, retro-orbital headache, elevated intraocular pressure, and a decrease in vision. The classic triad of ocular symptoms seen in direct CCFs are less commonly seen in indirect CCFs.
