The general rule in academic writing is to not use the exclamation mark.
However, exclamation marks should not be used in formal writing. Exclamation points should not be used in the academic world. Academia strives to be straightforward and level-headed. It is founded in research and reason, which is usually void of emotions.
To draw it, you put the long vertical line of an exclamation point over the familiar curve of a comma (not a period, as is the case with the standard exclamation point). Like an exclamation point, it was used to denote excitement, add flourish, and generally lend a statement a certain degree of emotion and emphasis.
The ! means you dont have service. Toggling airplane mode should restore it
Some workplace experts say exclamation points have little place in professional communications and toiling over how many to use or how many youve received in a message can put undue stress on both the sender and recipient.
Examples like these are quite normal in those kinds of writing that try to represent ordinary speech for example, in novels. But exclamation marks are usually out of place in formal writing. Using them frequently will give your work a breathless, almost childish, quality.
Put the exclamation point inside the parentheses when it applies to the words inside the parentheses. Jeremy didnt find out until later what kind of spider it was (a black widow!). Put the exclamation point outside the parentheses if it applies to the whole sentence.
Avoid exclamation marks in academic writing: In academic or official documents, its best not to use exclamations as they could come off as unprofessional. Vary your punctuation: Mix it up with other punctuation marks like periods and question marks to keep your writing engaging.
