Excel has a surprising limitation that you may not discover until you try to enter more than 15 digits in a cell. The application can only store numbers with15 digits of precision. If you enter a number that has 16 digits or more, Excel changes those extra digits to zero.
When you enter a long number, type a single quotation mark () first in the cell, and then type the long number. For example, type 1234567890123456789 and the quotation mark wont be displayed after you press ENTER.
This behavior occurs only if the cell is formatted as Number, and the number that is entered exceeds 15 digits. For cells that are formatted as text, you can type up to 32,767 characters. Excel displays up to 1,024 characters on the worksheet.
Type a starting value for the series. Type a value in the next cell either below or to the right to establish a pattern. Tap to select the first cell, and then drag the selection handle around the second value. On the Edit menu, tap Fill, and then tap and drag the fill arrow down.
