if you have a date in Excel and want to fill the column where youve got something in an adjacent column you can point to the fill handle on the date and double-click to fill down and it fills the dates in a series if you want to have all the same date while that range is selected on the keyboard press ctrl + D and that does a fill down and all the dates are the same
