What is AutoFill? Excel has a feature that helps you automatically enter data. If you are entering a predictable series (e.g. 1, 2, 3; days of the week; hours of the day) you can use the AutoFill command to automatically extend the sequence.
If Flash Fill doesnt generate the preview, it might not be turned on. You can go to Data Flash Fill to run it manually, or press Ctrl+E. To turn Flash Fill on, go to Tools Options Advanced Editing Options check the Automatically Flash Fill box.
In Google Sheets, the Fill Down function relies on the fill handle, which is a small circle at the bottom-right corner of the selected cell or range of cells. By grabbing and dragging this handle, you can easily fill down cells with static data, sequential data, or formulas.
Keyboard shortcut: You can also press Ctrl+D to fill the formula down a cell in a column, or Ctrl+R to fill the formula to the right in a row.
Fill data automatically in worksheet cells Select one or more cells you want to use as a basis for filling additional cells. For a series like 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, type 1 and 2 in the first two cells. Drag the fill handle . If needed, click Auto Fill Options. and choose the option you want.
Select Your Start: Click on the cell with your starting value. For sequences, input at least two values to establish a pattern. Drag to Fill: Position your cursor over the cells bottom-right corner until it turns into a plus sign. Drag down or across to fill your series.
Tap to select the cell that contains the data you want to fill into other cells, and then tap the cell a second time to open the Edit menu. Tap Fill, and then tap and drag the fill arrows down or to the right.
