The term, Congestive Cardiac Failure (CCF), is medical jargon, used to describe a group of symptoms and problems caused by a weakened heart muscle.
In this series:Congestive heart failureLoop diuretics. Fluid overload means that there is too much fluid in the body. The increased level of fluid results in an excessive amount of fluid flowing around the circulatory system. This can overwork the heart and lead to heart failure.
Sodium causes your body to hold on to water. Most nutrition plans for CHF patients limit sodium to 1500 to 2,000 milligrams or less per day. Take diuretics as directed Diuretics, also known as water pills, help your kidneys remove extra water and salt from your body. They can also relieve swelling in your legs.
These are the common symptoms of end-stage heart failure: pain. breathlessness on minimal exertion or at rest. persistent cough. fatigue (extreme tiredness) limited physical activity. depression and anxiety. constipation. loss of appetite and nausea (feeling sick)
Inducing a Diuresis Different classes of diuretics are used in patients with chronic HF, although loop diuretics (furosemide, bumetanide and torasemide) are the most widely prescribed.
When you have heart failure, your heart does not pump out enough blood. This causes fluids to build up in your body. If you consume too much sodium, this can lead to fluid retention. You may get symptoms such as swelling, weight gain, and shortness of breath.
Congestive heart failure (also called heart failure) is a serious condition in which the heart doesnt pump blood as efficiently as it should. Despite its name, heart failure doesnt mean that the heart has literally failed or is about to stop working.
With congestive heart failure, the hearts capacity to pump blood cannot keep up with the bodys need. As the heart weakens, blood begins to back up and force liquid through the capillary walls. The term congestive refers to the resulting buildup of fluid in the ankles and feet, arms, lungs, and/or other organs.
