The DOCX and DOC file extensions are used for Microsoft Word documents, part of the Microsoft Office Suite of software. DOCX/DOC files are used to store word processing data. DOCX is part of Microsoft Office Open XML specification (also known as OOXML or OpenXML) and was introduced with Office 2007.
Unlock a protected document On the Review tab, in the Protect group, click Restrict Editing. In the Restrict Editing task pane, click Stop Protection. If you are prompted to provide a password, type the password.
Go to File Info. Select Protect document. Select Enable Editing.
Heres how to remove any editing restrictions youve placed on a Microsoft Word document: Open the document and click on the Review tab. Under Protect, select Restrict editing to view the current editing permissions. Click Stop Protection. If you chose password protection, enter the password when prompted.
Restrict editing Click Review Restrict Editing. Under Editing restrictions, check Allow only this type of editing in the document, and make sure the list says No changes (Read only). Click Yes, Start Enforcing Protection.
Select Stop Protection Click on the Stop Protection button. If the document isnt password-protected, selecting this button may automatically disable the read-only editing blocker. If the document is password-protected, Word may prompt you to enter the password after you click on the Stop Protection button.
Click Review Restrict Editing. Under Editing restrictions, select Allow only this type of editing in the document. Make sure the pull-down list box says No changes (Read only). In the Start enforcement section, select Yes to start enforcing protection.
Remove restrictions On the Review tab, under Protection, select Permissions, and then select No Restrictions. In the dialog box, select Remove Restrictions.
