thanks for joining us today uh this is a atg webinar and the topic of choice for today is back to basics feature lines ive had a lot of questions lately not as far as complex future lines and how to get them tied in to different things but just whats feature lines and how they work and just the basic ax aspect of just creating them and how to edit them and how to uh change the elevations so that is kind of the topic today my name is jeff haney im a senior civil technical specialist here and if you guys have questions uh after the class of course in this particular part just send me a email jhaney atgusa.com be more than glad to answer whatever questions that you might have so like i said todays topic is a pretty pretty simple on this one but a lot of maybe a lot of new people trying to get in or people who dont know civil 3d yet and theyre trying to just figure out what feature lines are so were going to talk about how to create them and how to edit them and um kind of go over

Click Home tab Create Design panel Feature Line drop-down Create Feature Lines From Objects Find. In the drawing, select one or more polylines, lines, or arcs. Then press Enter. Note: You can enter Xref to select an object from an Xref.
To make the point simply type PO press enter and then click at a point on the drawing area or specify the coordinates of the point where you want to make the point. By default, the point will appear as a single dot in the drawing area and you can take reference of these points to make your drawing.
To Create Points Along a Line or a Curve Select settings and create styles, layers, point groups, and description keys. Home tab Create Ground Data panel Points menu Create Points - Miscellaneous Along Line/Curve . Select a line, lot line, feature line, or arc. Enter the distance from the end point.
Use the Set Grade/Slope on Across Feature Lines command to edit the grade or slope between vertices on two or more intersecting feature lines. To be considered to be intersecting, the feature lines must both have either a PI or an elevation point at their intersection.
Feature lines are 3D objects which can be used as grading footprints, surface breaklines, and as corridor baselines.

Select the feature line you want to join other lines to. Select the joining object or enter Multiple to make a selection of multiple feature lines, polylines, or 3D polylines.
Use the Break command to break a feature line into two feature lines. The prompts for this command are similar to the AutoCAD Break command.
3D polylines are a core AutoCAD entity, Features lines are a C3D object. 3D polylines do not support arcs, Feature lines do. 3D polylines do not have any specific tools for editing, Feature lines do. 3D polylines will not display linetypes other than continuous, Feature lines do.
Use the Insert Points at Crossing Locations command to insert PI points or elevation points on feature lines in the same site that cross each other.
