that i try to use to seal up the ingredient now itamp;#39;s not like a have to that you do seal up the ingredient you donamp;#39;t have to put this on there you can still cut logs i mean uh there have been logs that iamp;#39;ve gotten before that have been sitting for a long time that i never was able to get the end sealed up but if i but i have the chance if i get a fresh cut log or something i like to put a sealer on the end of the log and all that does is just help the drying process uh slow it down a little bit so itamp;#39;s not running out the ends of the log itamp;#39;s drying in a in a better uh slower way but a more stable way um also i like to seal the log when i get it because then once i mill it up the ingrained is already sealed so that itamp;#39;s kind of helping prevent some checks or major checking in your lumber slabs or logs and so iamp;#39;m going to show you what i use when i first started i would just use like latex paint whatever worked in it and it worked

Reasons Why Your Fireplace May Smell Strange Although you may be concerned that you smell gas, there is a strong possibility you just smell factory chemicals or paint. Let your fireplace burn for a few hours to burn off any of this type of debris, and let is cool down completely before you light it again.
This type of odor may occur any time of year with a newly installed unit. Like other devices made in a factory, gas fireplaces often have lubricants, paints, and other manufacturing processes that leave debris in the passageway, which will produce a stink sometimes described as burning plastic.
The smell comes from the ingredients used in manufacturing and can emit a slight odor at first but should wear off in a couple hours. If the smell persists after a few hours of use, turn off your fireplace and contact your fuel provider to ensure your system is working properly.
Its normal for a gas fireplace to smell when its first turned on. Homeowners are wise to be wary of gas smells in the home as gas leaks are dangerous and potentially deadly.

Creosote, especially when wet, has a very powerful, obnoxious odor. Water penetration and negative pressure in the house are the main causes of fireplace odor. So the next step is to insure that there is an adequate rain cover (cap) on the top of the flue and that the exterior of the masonry is somewhat waterproof.
Without proper ventilation and safety systems in place there can be serious health risks associated with burning gas in a ventless fireplace. Ventless fireplaces produce small amounts of nitrous dioxide and carbon monoxide which can be deadly in large doses.
