People may faint as a reaction to pain, exhaustion, hunger, or emotional stress. It may also happen after someone has been standing or sitting still for a long period of time, especially if they are hot. When someone faints, their pulse slows right down but it usually picks up again quickly and goes back to normal. If someone has fainted but doesnamp;#39;t come around after a couple of minutes, then this could be more serious. There are three key signs of someone who has fainted: they have a brief period of unresponsiveness causing them to fall to the ground, they may have a slow pulse, their skin may be pale, cold and sweaty. If someoneamp;#39;s feeling faint, advise them to lie down. Kneel down next to them and raise their legs, supporting their ankles on your shoulder or a chair if available, to help blood flow back to the brain. Fainting occurs when the brain doesnt receive enough blood for a brief time. This causes loss of consciousness. Consciousness is usually regained quickly. Fainting might have no medical significance. Or the cause can be a serious disorder, occasionally involving the heart.
Most fainting will pass quickly and wont be serious. Usually, a fainting episode will only last a few seconds, although it will make the person feel unwell and recovery may take several minutes. If a person doesnt recover quickly, always seek urgent medical attention.
A faint can be caused by tiredness, dehydration, severe pain, anxiety, low blood pressure, low blood sugar levels, heart attack or stroke. If you feel you are about to faint, lie on the ground with your legs raised until the feeling passes.
Fainting is when you pass out for a short time. Its not usually a sign of something serious, but if it happens you should see a GP.
When coming round after a faint, the person often feels awful, sickly and may vomit, or even have diarrhoea. Often there is prolonged fatigue after a faint.
If light-headedness gets worse, it can lead to a fainting spell. It is common to feel light-headed from time to time. It may be caused by many things. These include allergies, dehydration, illness, and medicines.
