Usually, people who faint are very embarrassed. There is no need to be since fainting is not a controllable response. Sometimes the embarrassment and experience is so overwhelming that people will avoid getting their blood tests and having needed procedures or surgeries.
There is nothing to be embarrassed about with fainting. You shouldnt let the fear and anxiety around fainting get in the way of fulfilling what you want to do.
Lie down or sit down. To reduce the chance of fainting again, dont get up too quickly. Place your head between your knees if you sit down.
As soon as possible have someone notify a parent or legal guardian. Also have someone notify the school nurse, if available. If possible, talk to the student about any concerns. Talk with other students who witnessed what happened and how you and others responded.
You will probably get sent home. If you do, and your parents ask questions, answer them honestly. In the event you hurt yourself or your faint warrants a hospital visit in an ambulance, dont worry. Other kids will most likely be concerned for your health than anything else.
Most fainting will pass quickly and wont be serious. Usually, a fainting episode will only last a few seconds, although it will make the person feel unwell and recovery may take several minutes. If a person doesnt recover quickly, always seek urgent medical attention.
