hello everyone and welcome back to Neuroscience methods 101 today were going to discuss resting state electroencephalography or resting state EEG as we have seen in an earlier video EEG records tiny electrical signals by using electrodes on the scalp these electrical signals originate from the depolarization and hyperpolarization of groups of neurons in the brain the result is a wavy pattern that can be further analyzed we can record EEG signals when participants perform some kind of task to see how their brain signals behave during perception decision making learning attention memory and so on one way to analyze such task-related signals is by Computing event related potentials or erps as we have discussed in a previous video but rather than performing EEG during a task we can also record signals when participants are doing absolutely nothing and this is a resting state EEG now when performing a resting state EEG measurement signals are recorded from anywhere between 2 and 10 minutes
