The most common causes are deodorant, oxidation, and bleach. While sweat is 99% water, the remaining 1% contains urea, uric acid, ammonia, lactic acid, sugars, salts, and more. These chemicals react with the aluminum contained in most deodorants and antiperspirants to create those pesky underarm stains we dont love.
If you let your laundry slide for a few days, the sweat patches on your clothes can dry up, leaving a residue of sweat and antiperspirant. When left to linger, the active aluminum compound in your antiperspirant combines with the salt in your sweat, resulting in those unwelcome yellow sweat stains.
Blot the area with a clean cloth, then rinse the stain from inside the garment with cold water. Add soap and soak: Add liquid dish soap to the stain, gently massage it into the fabric, and let it sit for 10 minutes. Rinse and dry: Rinse your garment and let it air dry to see if the stain is gone.
Too much fabric softener: Just like using too much detergent, using too much fabric softener can also leave white stains on dark clothes after washing. Again, reducing the amount you use can help avoid this problem.
To remove color bleed, avoid using a dryer which can set the stain; instead soak garments with laundry detergent, vinegar or oxygen-based bleach depending on fabric type and dye strength.
Steps to get set-in stains out of whites Add water to the plastic dishpan. Use cold tap water and measure so you know you have 1 gallon (16 cups). Add cup Clorox Disinfecting Bleach. Measure the bleach and add it to the water in the plastic dishpan. Add your clothes to the dishpan. Machine wash. Air dry.
Yes, they are. Douse the stain with white vinegar, then apply a paste made of equal parts baking soda and vinegar. If this doesnt work, immerse the item overnight in a bucket of water containing a few tablespoons of detergent and vinegar. Rinse and wash the following morning.
Mix one tablespoon of white vinegar with one teaspoon of castile soap in a bowl and place the stained shirt in the solution for 30 minutes. Sprinkle baking soda or oxygen bleach on the stain and agitate. Wash in cold water. Repeat if necessary.
