Signs that wood stain may have gone bad include a strong, unpleasant odor, docHub thickening or clumping, or visible changes in color or texture. If you encounter these signs, its best to dispose of the stain properly and acquire a fresh can for your project.
The stain may penetrate deeper into the porous areas, leading to darker patches. Uneven Sanding: If the wood surface is not sanded properly or if there are rough spots, the stain may be absorbed differently, resulting in blotches.
The main culprit of stain bleed back is failure to allow the stain to fully dry. Unfortunately, it can be difficult to ascertain whether or not stain has completely dried, because while it appears dry on the surface of the wood, an abundance of stain deep in the cell cavities is often still liquid.
Mix one tablespoon of white vinegar with one teaspoon of castile soap in a bowl and place the stained shirt in the solution for 30 minutes. Sprinkle baking soda or oxygen bleach on the stain and agitate. Wash in cold water. Repeat if necessary.
