Treatments like laser therapy, chemical peels, and topical creams aim to lighten these skin discolorations, which are often the result of bruising, inflammation, or chronic venous insufficiency. The sustainability of treatment results depends on factors like the underlying cause and the bodys response to treatment.
You may notice that the skin on your lower legs becomes discolored or appears bruised as you age. The technical term for this is hemosiderin staining. Its caused by a problem with the blood vessels in your legs called chronic venous insufficiency. You may need to make lifestyle changes to help fix the condition.
Hemosiderin appears as a dark yellowish brown pigment. After staining with Prussian blue, these granules are blue. The amount of hemosiderin is graded qualitatively from 0 to 4+ on a bone marrow smear, with the normal amount being 1+ to 2 +.
Hemosiderin staining of the skin due to an underlying medical condition can be a sign that the condition needs better treatment or management. Its important for you and your doctor to uncover and address the cause, especially conditions such as diabetes, blood vessel disease, or high blood pressure.
In and of itself, the accumulation of hemosiderin is not a threat to health. However, because this can be a sign of a more serious underlying condition, it would be a good idea for you to be evaluated by your health care provider.
Cardiac strain or myocardial strain describes the deformation of the cardiac wall or chamber from a relaxed to a contracted condition more precisely the alteration of length in one dimension or spatial orientation.
Interpretation. Provides information to assist in interpretation of the test results. A positive hemosiderin indicates excess red cell destruction.
Hemosiderin is formed by granules of pooled ferritin molecules (Damjanov, 2009). It is detected in many organs, and in large quantities can cause histological lesions and functional disorders. Under normal circumstances, hemosiderin acts protectively and it is not as effective as an iron donor.
