Scuffs versus Scratches Scuffs tend to be marks on your cars surface that have rubbed off from an alternate source. Paint from another car, rubber from a bumper, rust from a trash canall these things can scrape off one item and transfer to your cars paint job. Scratches go much deeper than scuffs.
Most light scratches can be fixed by polishing the clear coat with a rubbing compound. It will remove the damaged layer and leave your paint looking good as new. If the scratch is deep, you may need to sand the area before polishing it. It will remove any rough edges and make it easier to apply the compound evenly.
Place a few drops of mild dish soap in to a small bowl of warm water and gently stir. Dip in your soft cloth or sponge, and wring out before gently scrubbing the mark, making sure not to saturate the area, and finish by wiping dry with a soft, clean cloth.
Friction is to blame for scuff marks, especially from rubber material. Shoes, furniture, and tossed objects can leave these unsightly marks on your interior walls by rubbing against them, even briefly.
When an object bumps or abrades the wall with enough force, these tiny hairs are broken or flattened. When this occurs, more light is reflected from the affected areas, causing a visibly discolored spot or a scuff-mark. This is very common with builders grade, flat paint.

Dampen a soft microfiber cloth. Squirt a small amount of toothpaste onto the damp cloth. Rub hard in circular motions over the scuff mark. Repeat as necessary until the scuff is gone.
