To find out, we went to three testing experts, Dr. Amesh Adalja and Doctor Gigi Gronvall, both from Johns Hopkins University and Doctor William Morice from the Mayo Clinic. They all agree if your test is positive, irrespective of the faintness on an antigen line, you should consider yourself contagious and infected. So what is the faintness of the positive line mean? This means you have a positive COVID-19 result. If your result is negative, you will see one line next to C. If you have a void result, you will see a line next to T. This means the test is void and hasnt worked. You need to tell the NHS your result.
If the extracted specimen contains SARS-CoV-2 antigens, a pink-to-red Test Line, along with a blue procedural Control Line will appear on the Test Strip indicating a positive result. If SARS-CoV-2 is not present, or is present at very low levels, only a blue procedural Control Line will appear.
Taking a home pregnancy test and getting a faint positive line doesnt always mean youre pregnant. Sometimes, what appears to be a positive line is actually an evaporation line. These misleading lines can appear in the results window as urine evaporates from the stick.
Two lines even faint lines indicate the test is positive. The test has failed and should be retaken.
A POSITIVE result must show BOTH a BLUE line and a PINK line near the BLUE line. Look closely! Even a very faint, pink Test Line and a blue Control Line is a POSITIVE result. The intensity of the lines may vary.
