Yeah, well, when you see the results of the rapid test and its positive sometimes that line can be bold, but other times youre like have to hold it up to the light just to see it. So does that mean you have less virus or are less contagious? Unfortunately our experts verified its hard to tell. Lets verify does the faintness of a line on an antigen test tell you anything about how contagious you are, or if the virus is on its way out? To find out, we went to three testing experts, Dr. Amesh Adalja and Doctor Gigi Gronvall, both from Johns Hopkins University and Doctor William Morice from the Mayo Clinic. They all agree if your test is positive, irrespective of the faintness on an antigen line, you should consider yourself contagious and infected. So what is the faintness of the positive line mean? Theres a lot of reasons why that that line could be faint. One could be. You dont have much virus in there. Another could be poor reactivity. Another could be poor specimen, like youre

If your result is positive, you will see 2 lines on the test. A pink line next to C and a pink line next T. This means you have a positive COVID-19 result.
While there are many factors that can cause a line on a COVID test to be faint or hardly visible, the safe best is to assume that any line on a test means youre positive and that you need to take precautions to avoid spreading the virus to others.
This is because relatively large amounts of virus need to be present for the antibodies in the test to react to the viral proteins. A faint, slow-to-appear line could still represent high levels of virus, meaning that if you can see any line at all, you are still highly likely to be infectious.
If the test device is left to develop longer you may receive a false positive result and you will need to repeat the test. This indicates the test is negative. Two lines even faint lines indicate the test is positive. The test has failed and should be retaken.
Rapid antigen or lateral flow tests can help to identify when someone with COVID-19 is most infectious, but even a faint line should be treated as a positive result.
For a red dye test, a faint line will look light pink, whereas a blue dye test will produce a light blue line.
If you check your results within the recommended time frame and see a faint positive line, youre most likely pregnant. On the other hand, if you miss the window for checking the results and you dont check the test until 10 minutes later, a faint line may be an evaporation line, which means youre not pregnant.
3. Even if the control line is faint, or the test line isnt uniform, the test should be considered to be performed properly and the test result should be interpreted as a positive result. * The presence of any line no matter how faint the result is considered positive.
