When numerical options vary greatly, chances are that the best response is in the middle ranges. Eliminate the highest and lowest options. Certain questions have answers that are closely related or almost identical, except for one detail. This should be your clue to choose one of the two similar answers.
C isnt any better or worse than any other letter, or any more likely to be the correct answer, but if you decide to stick with it for every blind guess you make, youll have a better chance of success than if you try your best to be random.
So at the very least, always guess! Myth 2: C is the best guess letter and is right more often than any other letter. C or H are right (and wrong) as often as any other answer choice.
Im sure youve heard this at some point if you dont know the answer, always guess C. because its the most common correct option. Thats just a myth, and generally there are no most common answers on multiple choice tests.
The truth is that it doesnt matter which letter you pick, only that you stick to the one you choose. The best strategy, and the one that will maximize your overall point gain, is to pick your favorite letter and fill it in for every blind guess.
In some cases, the best choice is between two very different or opposite choices. When one option encompasses the other options or is more inclusive, choose it. If an absolute such as always, never, every, all, none, etc. is present, consider the option false.
The multiple-choice format makes it easy for students to guess, distorting their scores and making it difficult to evaluate their understanding of the material accurately. Another area for improvement with multiple-choice tests is that they often focus on lower-order thinking skills rather than higher-order ones.
