Here are the most common causes of a printer printing faded text or images: Low ink or toner levels. Toner sticking to the fuser roller or problems with the transfer roller. Low ink or toner density settings.
Because it uses heat-sensitive materials, direct thermal labels do not have a long shelf-life, usually lasting around six to eight months. They have a tendency to scratch easily, and overexposure to direct sunlight or high temperatures will cause the print to fade faster.

Dirty Print Head If you have not used your printer for a while, your print head may become clogged, which causes some part of your text to fade. It is a good practice to perform print head cleaning to restore the ink flow.
Run your printers print head cleaning utility (instructions typically found in your user manual). If the problem persists, you will need to remove the individual cartridges and ensure the contact and cable surfaces are free of ink residue.
If your printouts are faint or have gaps, try these solutions: Run a nozzle check to see if any of the print head nozzles are clogged. Then clean the print head, if necessary. The ink cartridges may be old or low on ink, and you may need to replace them.
Faint, streaky or spotty prints are all common signs of a clog but a simple cleaning can usually get your HP ink cartridges working again. Printheads clog due to infrequent cartridge use. If you regularly go a few weeks without printing, your cartridges will eventually dry out and need to be replaced.
Incorrect heat settings If the heat settings are too low, the opposite will happen and you will have a faded image. Having the correct heat settings will make sure that your label is printed correctly, and remove potential problems in scanning and reading barcodes.
Go to Printing Preferences then Maintenance and select Print Check Pattern. Once the page has printed, you can select the appropriate cleaning option. Allow the printer to complete the cleaning cycle. If the quality has not improved, please try running the cleaning cycle 2-3 more times.
Stop receipts from fading For the best chance of keeping thermal receipts legible for a few years, you need to store them correctly: Dont store receipts in plastic sleeves. Do store receipts away from heat and light.
