In any type of fainting, press hard with finger the point GV 26 (below the nose) or K 1 (on the sole) or the ear lobe. All three points may be pressed depending upon response of the patient. If known that fainting is due to low blood pressure, use GV 26 and if due to high blood pressure, use K 1.
Carotid sinus syncope, or tight-collar syndrome, happens when something pushes on nerves at a wide part of your carotid artery in your neck. This slows your heartbeat and interferes with blood flow to the brain and makes you faint. It happens quickly and without other symptoms like nausea, paleness, and sweating.
Carotid Sinus Syncope, a response in older adults that occurs when pressure is applied to the carotid artery in the neck. A hard twist of the neck, wearing a tight collar and pressing on the artery are triggers for carotid sinus syncope.
If your vagus nerve becomes too active, it can cause your heart rate and blood pressure to drop too much or too fast (or both). If your blood pressure drops too much, this causes an attack of vasovagal syncope, and you pass out because theres not enough blood flow to your brain.
Pressure on the carotid sinuses by a tight collar, by turning the head to the side, in swallowing, or even in shaving the side of the neck over the carotid sinus may be sufficient to cause the syncope, or it may occur spontaneously.
