Hi, everyone. Its Emma here. And this week, I am talking through the topic, is it normal to faint during your periods? So, as much as this is something that we wouldnt want to be happening on a monthly basis, it can happen. And so we want to just raise a little bit of awareness around this, and for me to explain some of the reasons why it might be happening, and potentially what you could do to help. So, first of all, I just want to explain a little bit around why you may be feeling dizzy during your periods. So, there are many reasons. It could be down to hormones, or hormone imbalance, which we talk about quite a lot, the cramps themselves, or it could perhaps be linked to, anxiety, or mental issues as well. Period pain is a justifiable reason to take a regular sick day. It doesnt need its own status. The same goes for mental health days those are sick days too.
You can be honest about your symptoms when talking with your doctor. This may help determine eligibility for FMLA. Some employers require you to provide documentation before taking a leave of absence or stress leave. The doctors note may offer details on why youre on stress leave and when youll return to work.
My doctor advised me to take it easy due to severe period symptoms. Would it be possible to work from home today? I cant come into the office due to a menstrual cycle issue. Im seeing my doctor this morning, but would be happy to work from home for the rest of my shift.
Tips for talking to your boss about menstruation Be prepared. Make sure you have clear facts to state your case. Find the right setting. Be positive and minimise emotions. Offer solutions. Allow your boss to ask questions and listen to their point of view.
I know there is no official policy for menstrual leave, but Im having period cramps, and due to the menstrual contraction, I wont be able to work properly. I have also taken painkillers, but they are not working as well. I would appreciate it if you could grant me this leave.
Unless you have a specific diagnosis, such as endometriosis, your period pain may not actually qualify for a sick day, and it may make more sense to take a personal day to tend to your menstrual symptoms.
Watch out for discrimination risks Period pain isnt covered by law. However, in theory, it may have the potential to qualify as a disability in some cases. Thats if someone could prove that it relates to a physical or mental condition that has a long-term impact on their ability to work.
